Synopsis.
Beginning of the 13th century, the town of Assisi in Umbria, Italy. In a city where social conflicts lead to a civil war, young Claire and Francis are enemies by birth: he is the son of a rich merchant, she descends from a patrician family. When they first meet he is in chains, but it takes her only a gaze into his eyes to understand their destinies will be strongly tied together. Five years later, peace has returned to Assisi, but Francis' soul is restless: he renounces his father and his patrimony, laying aside even the garments he had received from him, to live along with the Gospel.
